Common Dental Issues
Tooth Decay
While cavities might not endanger your life, they may negatively impact your quality of life. When your diet consists of large amounts of starches and sugars, acids form that begin to eat away at tooth enamel damaging the mineral structure of teeth.
Sensitive Teeth
Hot and cold food and drinks can cause pain or irritation to people with sensitive teeth. Over time, tooth enamel wears down, gums recede or teeth may develop microscopic cracks, exposing the interior of the tooth and irritating nerve endings. If you have extremely sensitive teeth, simply breathing cold air can be painful for you.
Gum Disease
Gingivitis: Gums in the early stage of disease, or gingivitis, bleed easily and become red and swollen.
Periodontitis: Is a severe infection in your gum tissue, teeth or bone. The good news is that gum disease is preventable and treatable. You can usually avoid gum disease with daily brushing and flossing.
Bad Breath (Halitosis)
While certain foods may create temporary bad breath, regular, frequent bad breath may be a sign of gum disease or another serious dental issue.
Canker Sores
Canker sores are small sores inside your mouth that often reappear. You can often reduce the duration of canker sores by rinsing with warm salt water or antimicrobial mouthwash.
Orthodontic Problems
A bite that does not meet properly is called a malocclusion. Some causes of malocclusion are missing or extra teeth, crowded teeth or misaligned jaws. Accidents or developmental issues, such as finger or thumb sucking, may cause malocclusions. Click here to learn more about >>> clear adult braces.
