Just 20 years ago, patients who lost permanent teeth had no choice but a fixed bridge or removable denture to allow them to speak clearly, smile or even eat. These solutions were imperfect, often causing embarrassing clicking, slipping and in the case of bridges, sometimes damage to healthy teeth.
A dental implant, like an artificial root, is integrated into your jaw with a small titanium screw and over the course of several months naturally bonds with your jawbone. Once the jawbone has attached to the implant, a new tooth is put in place. This procedure is relatively simple and effective in almost all cases.
